Before Senior year

Throughout high school:

  • Explore and commit to extracurricular and leadership activities
  • Go to a summer camp with ASAP!
  • Continue to explore interests through enrichment programs.
  • Great student resource for college planning, financial aid, student life and career
  • For all tests, put the Mission High College Board Code 052980.

APPLYING FOR COLLEGE

FALL OF SENIOR YEAR

1. FINALIZE A COLLEGE LIST.

2. Apply TO SCHOOLS

  • Narrow down your college list
  • Make a college application timeline and plan - note college application due dates and requirements for UC, CSU, Private, or other
  • Ask a counselor or teacher for recommendations, if needed
  • Make sure to have completed SAT and/or ACT if schools the schools you're applying to need it
  • Have personal statement and essays finalized and ready. Prompts: UC app. Common App
  • There are fee-waivers for ACT, SAT, and college applications if you qualify for them. Ask us about them!
  • Apply for EOP (Education Opportunity Program) at UC and CSU
  • Remember to send test scores to all your chosen colleges

3. PAYING FOR COLLEGE?

Federal financial aid: Fill out FAFSA , or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or DREAM Act to determine your eligibility for federal aid. This aid is need-based. Aid can come in forms of federal grants (money you don't have to owe), federal loans, or work-study. Complete as soon as possible after October 1st.

Department of Rehabilitation

The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) assists Californians with disabilities to obtain and retain employment and maximize their equality and ability to live independently in their communities. Services may include

  • Career assessment and counseling

  • Job search and interview skills

  • Independent living skills

  • Career education and training

  • Assistive technology


Spring Of Senior Year

4. Hear back from colleges!

  • Compare Financial Aid Award Packets
  • Make pros/cons lists 
  • Consider Financial Aid appeal

5. Take AP exams

6. Continue applying to Scholarships

7. Commit to a school! May 1

  • May 1st deadline to submit Student Intent to Register (SIR) to college you are planning to attend
  • Inform of all the schools of your decision
  • Send in necessary Transcripts

8. GRADUATION!!!

9. Begin your college experience!

  • Prepare for your first year!
  • Seek further support during college including ASAP's college persistence program aimed to provide more resources for our students to get to and through college.
