Mission

The Athletic Scholars Advancement Program (ASAP) is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to student athletes at Mission High School. We create and cultivate a college-bound culture by providing access to college summer school programs, one-on-one mentoring, individualized college counseling services and college persistence programs to provide support students to and through college.

Program Components

1. Pre-College COUNSELING/College Access ADVISing

We provide one-on-one support from staff and volunteers with expertise in the college application process, financial aid, and scholarships.

2. SUMMER PROGRAMS On College CAMPUSES

We provide full scholarships and send over 160 students to attend sports and academic summer camps.

3. ASAP College prep class for Juniors

We have a 20-student junior year (advisory) class in the spring, to start early and prepare for the upcoming college application process in senior year.

4. FUTURE FRIDAYS

Future Fridays is an official club at Mission High where every Friday lunch at ASAP, we talk about college, sometimes with college reps visiting or teachers or alumni. If you'd like to be a Future Fridays visitor, let us know.

5. Parent Program

We are continuing to build out our parent program with our Lead Parents to better support and educate parents on the college application process and beyond. Parents interested should email Wendy.

7. College persistence: Scholarships

ASAP offers help with financial aid and scholarship applications. We also offer our own scholarships, including the Promise Scholarship, which provides financial support as well as college and career mentorship.

6. College Success Advisors (CSA's)

We employ current and recent college students, some of which are Mission ASAP alumni, to advise our high school seniors during the entire college application process, including financial aid.

8. COLLEGE PERSISTENCE: ALUMNI MENTORING PROGRAM (AMP)

We employ about 15 ASAP Alumni on 8+ college campuses to be matched with incoming freshman currently at their respective college/university to provide campus-specific support.

"My name is Isaac and I am a senior at Mission High. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend the Berkeley soccer summer camp. This program was an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. From the practices, to the breakfast/dinners in the dorms. Everything was unique and new for me. I enjoyed meeting new people, being introduced to different cultures and sharing laughs with friends.

The program has had a direct impact on what I will look for when deciding the college I will attend. Not only did it influence/mold my perspective on college but it gave me a taste of the lifestyle."

- Isaac Alvarez, MHS Class of 2018
