ASAP Alumni Spotlight: Manzili Brown

Manzili as a senior signing up for the SAT!

Manzili Brown, MHS class of 2015, is in his 3rd year at San Francisco State, majoring in Biology. After being part of ASAP and MHS athletics, he has continued his involvement as a volleyball coach and peer mentor.

Manzili started playing football when he was 8, so it was an obvious choice to play in high school. He also joined the boys volleyball team and paddled for Dragonboat to stay busy and try new things. Manzili came to Mission as a sophomore, so playing sports helped him make new friends and join the MHS community.

Now Manzili is giving back to ASAP by serving as a mentor to incoming students at SF State through ASAP’s Alumni Peer Mentor (AMP) program. Being a peer mentor has helped him better understand himself as a student and has prompted him to step up his studies and lead by example. He is also coaching volleyball at Mission (both boys and girls), where he has helped players elevate their game and tested his own knowledge.

Manzili spent a lot of time in ASAP during his senior year, and his favorite ASAP memory was getting accepted to college. His advice for current high school students is to “take AP and Honors classes in high school so that the transition to college is more smooth.”

We are so grateful for Manzili’s continued involvement with ASAP and Mission athletics, and the example that he sets for younger students!

Manzili graduated Mission High in 2015 and continues to be involved in ASAP through our Alumni Mentoring Program and supporting Mission High student athletes through coaching.
