The 50 Fund grant will fund ASAP’s Summer Program Project, allowing mission student athletes to attend programs on college campuses, giving students a fun summer and exposure to college life. Last year, ASAP sent 155 students to a diverse range of programs all around the country.
ASAP recognized Executive Director Liz Butler Steyer as their Playmaker for her work as an advocate of at-risk youth throughout her career. Under her tenure, ASAP has tripled in size and now serves 300 students each year. She has shared that her goal is to provide students at Mission High individualized guidance and one-on-one assistance to assist them in the process of applying to college.
“Repeatedly, studies have shown the ripple effect from a first-generation student going to college; the first young person in a family who goes to college changes the odds for their younger siblings and all who follow,” said Butler Steyer. “We want ASAP to be a catalyst toward a college-going culture, and we’re committed to reaching as many students as possible.”
